This morning after breakfast we made our way through a very windy mountain road to Takaka. Our first stop along the way was at Paines Ford where Brent did some rock climbing. Unfortunately it was rainy and the rocks were very slippery so he could only do the climb right at the entrance.

Our next stop was Anatoki Salmon where we had a coffee while we waited for the rain to subside. We saw a bit of a window so we grabbed our fishing rods and tried our hand at salmon fishing. Brent was the first one to hook a fish and reel it in. It didn’t take long before Brent hooked his second fish and Eddie and I each also caught one soon after.

We took our catch which totalled 4.5kg to the little restaurant where they prepared our fish for us. We had one made into sashimi and the other 3 hot smoked. It was delicious and we have enough salmon for at least another 3 meals!

Once we had our fill in fish we drove to Takaka where we strolled through the Main Street which is known for being artsy. There are beautiful murals painted all along the Main Street, the largest one was painted by 45 artists! All the shops have an arty vibe to them.  Eddie and I had a coffee at the Dangerous Kitchen while Brent was chatting to a jeweller that showed him how to do a bezel setting on an opal.

The weather worsened and by 3pm it was blustery so we made a unanimous decision to head to Collingwood where we’ve parked up on the beach front for the night.
