We woke up to a wind still morning next to Lake Rotoiti. Although it was overcast the view over the lake was spectacular.
After breakfast we stopped at the Lake Rotoiti chapel. The door was unlocked so I went inside for some quiet time and took some photos of the beautiful view of the lake behind the pulpit.
Our next stop was Hope Saddle lookout where did the 15 minute walk to the viewing point which had spectacular views of the valley and the mountains.
From here we made our way to the Ann Brainsteiner sculpture garden and art gallery. The art was modern abstract and the garden was a slosh of mud. So we enjoyed the best work of art from within the car park … a beautiful tree covered in yellow leaves with a blanket of leaves surrounding the tree trunk. Nature is by far the most talented artist!
We then made our way to Motueka where we stopped to get a few things from Countdown before making our way to the Jane Seddon shipwreck. We spent quite a bit of time walking along the beach and admiring the view.
Our next stop was Split Apple Rock. It was quite a climb to get down to the beach but definitely worth the effort! Brent was more adventurous than Eddie and I and climbed along the rocks and explored the caves on the beach. After the steep walk / climb back up to the car park we drove to Marahau where we parked up at the beach camp for the night. The clouds have cleared up and the sunset was amazing.
We’re definitely having an early night after all the walking we did today!
